Professional: Dr. Charles Blotnick is widely recognized as one of the top cataract and intraocular lens implant surgeons in the state. He was one of the first to perform Tecnis Symfony Intraocular Lens surgeries. This IOL was the first extended depth of focus lens available for people with cataracts. When laser-aided cataract surgery was first introduced, Dr. Blotnick also performed one of the first surgical procedures in the region. He is always recognizing the newest technologies available for patient care, including the newest PanOptix Multifocal lens and Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) Surgery for cataract and Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) patients. Dr. Blotnick has also been performing LASIK surgery since its inception into the ophthalmology field. Recently, he has performed the Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) surgery for patients who are not a candidate for LASIK. Dr. Blotnick was also the first surgeon in North Carolina to implant the Glaukos Trabecular Micro-Bypass iStent. This stent improves the eye’s natural fluid outflow to safely lower eye pressure in patients with glaucoma. Dr. Blotnick continues to be one of the most experienced eye surgeons in the Carolinas. He co-authored five publications pertaining to his research and studies.
Education: Dr. Blotnick completed his internship at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and his ophthalmology residency at the Kresge Eye Institute of Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan. He also completed a 1 year research fellowship at Medical University of South Carolina studying intra-ocular lenses. Dr. Blotnick is board-certified and a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a diplomate of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the Association of Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.
He has repeatedly been awarded Vitals Patients’ Choice Award, which recognizes doctors who provide exemplary care. He was awarded the On-Time Doctor Award in 2015. These awards are based on annual patient reviews and ratings collected from millions of patients and are awarded to less than five percent of all doctors nationwide. Dr. Blotnick has been in practice for more than 20 years specializing in the newest techniques of cataracts, LASIK and glaucoma care.
Personal: An outdoor enthusiast, Dr. Blotnick is an avid snow skier and enjoys hiking, biking, softball, water skiing and watching sports with his wife and two sons.
