Education
Dr. Carl V. Nicholson earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Riverside, before going on to receive his Doctor of Optometry from Pacific University in Oregon. He completed an internship in vision therapy at the State University of New York.
Professional
Dr. Nicholson served as a Captain in the U.S. Army, where he was awarded the Health Professions Scholarship Program. During his service at the 97th General Hospital Regional Medical Center in Frankfurt, Germany, he held the position of Chief of Optometry Services for the Exceptional Family Member Clinic and received the Army Achievement Medal for his contributions during Desert Storm.
Special Interests
Dr. Nicholson has a strong interest in visual studies and has conducted research in visual memory at the California Institute of Technology, working alongside professors and graduate students. He has extensive expertise in fitting specialty contact lenses and has been co-managing LASIK procedures for over 20 years, collaborating with experienced surgeons who utilize cutting-edge technology.
For over two decades, Dr. Nicholson ran a successful private practice in Pasadena, CA, with two satellite offices in San Marino and Arcadia. After relocating to South Carolina in 2019, he worked with National Vision for four years before joining the team at Metrolina Eye Associates. Dr. Nicholson is committed to meeting the visual needs of patients across all age groups, from pediatric to geriatric, and providing them with top-quality eye care solutions.
Personal
Dr. Nicholson is married to his wife, Nancy, and they have five grown children: three sons and two daughters. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family and indulges in hobbies such as golfing, playing tennis, and croquet.
