Dr. Carl V. Nicholson completed his bachelors degree at the University of California Riverside. He went on to earn his Doctorate of Optometry from Pacific University in the state of Oregon and completed an internship in vision therapy at the State University of New York. Dr. Nicholson served as a Captain in the U.S. Army where he was a recipient of the Health Professions Scholarship Program. During this time he was stationed at the 97th General Hospital Regional Medical Center in Frankfurt, Germany, where he served as the Chief of Optometry Services for the Exceptional Family Member Clinic. In addition, he was awarded the Army Achievement Medal for his role in Desert Storm.
To further his interest in visual studies, Dr. Nicholson has been involved in and conducted research experiments in visual memory with professors and graduate students at the California Institute of Technology. He has an extensive knowledge of fitting specialty contact lenses. Dr. Nicholson has been co-managing the LASIK procedure for over 20 years and takes great pride in working with the most experienced surgeons who use state of the art technology.
Dr. Nicholson had a private practice for over twenty years in Pasadena CA with two satellite offices in San Marino and Arcadia. He relocated to South Carolina in 2019 and worked with National Vision for four years. He is inspired to be a part of the Metrolina Eye Associates team. His goal is to address his patients visual needs, from pediatric to geriatric, and provide them with the best possible eye care solutions.
Dr. Nicholson is married to his wife Nancy with whom they have five grown children; three sons and two daughters. When he is not working, he enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, playing tennis and croquet.
