Dr. Charles Blotnick completed his internship at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, before moving on to the Kresge Eye Institute of Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, for his ophthalmology residency. He also completed a one-year research fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina, focusing on intraocular lenses. Dr. Blotnick is board-certified and a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Additionally, he is a diplomate of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.
Professional Experience
Dr. Blotnick is widely recognized as one of the top cataract and intraocular lens (IOL) implant surgeons in the state. He was one of the first surgeons to perform Tecnis Symfony Intraocular Lens surgeries, which provided the first extended depth of focus lens for cataract patients. Dr. Blotnick also performed one of the region’s first laser-aided cataract surgeries when the technology was introduced. As a leader in ophthalmology, he continues to utilize the latest advancements, including the PanOptix Multifocal lens and Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) surgery for cataract and Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) patients. Furthermore, Dr. Blotnick has been performing LASIK surgeries since its early days in the field and has recently begun offering Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) surgeries for patients who are not candidates for LASIK.
Dr. Blotnick was the first surgeon in North Carolina to implant the Glaukos Trabecular Micro-Bypass iStent, a device that improves the natural outflow of eye fluid to lower intraocular pressure in glaucoma patients. His commitment to cutting-edge technology and patient care has made him one of the most experienced eye surgeons in the Carolinas. Dr. Blotnick has co-authored five research publications, further contributing to the advancement of ophthalmology.

Dr. Blotnick has been in practice for more than 20 years specializing in the newest techniques of cataracts, LASIK and glaucoma care.

An outdoor enthusiast, Dr. Blotnick enjoys a variety of activities, including snow skiing, hiking, biking, and water skiing. He is also an avid sports fan and enjoys watching games with his wife and two sons.
